What is a nurse used for during pelvic exams/IUD insertions done by doctors?

I'm 17 and I'm getting an IUD next week. A nurse told me that she is going to be in the room 'to help the doctor open the instrument packets because it's hard for them to do it when their gloves are on'. Is this the real reason why nurses are present during these types of exams?? Isn't it to make sure the patient doesn't accuse the doctor of molestation, and to comfort the patient??
