First time tampon insertion?

So my mom brought up to my attention that when inserting a tampon I will have to break my hymen. This terrifies me out of my mind! That's suppose to be broken during sex, which I am NOT planning to do until AFTER i'm married. Is it still okay though? I'm soooo scared to break my hymen, yet alone insert a tampon. But I know I'm going to have to wear one sometime because I'm super active in sports. I'm just terrified. Any advice?
