Help with tampon insertion?

I've been trying to use tampons FOREVER but it never works for me. Every time, I hit some sort of muscle and it wont let my tampon go in any further. Also, when I stand up for sit down after inserting it, I can feel it inside of me. What am I doing wrong? Please help! I dont want to use pads forever!
